Even within circles of mainstream academia, geologists have been able to demonstrate that cataclysms ravage the surface of the Earth on a fairly regular basis.
Scientists have also claimed that every 100,000 years or so, one ice age cycle ends, and shortly after, another one begins. In between these cycles, are deluges and floods that can be thought of as minor cataclysms.
So if humanity has existed for a least the past 240,000 years, as genetic testing seems to confirm, then it stands to reason all manner of catastrophes have ravaged our species.
